Why LGBTQ+ support matters
Research highlights why creating safe, inclusive spaces remains so important:
- 46% of lesbian, gay and bi people and 47% of trans people said they felt able to be open about their sexual orientation and/or gender identity with their whole family. [stonewall.org.uk]
- 35% of LGBT staff reported hiding or disguising that they were LGBT at work because they were afraid of discrimination. [stonewall.org.uk]
- 42% of LGBT university students reported hiding or disguising their identity at university because they were afraid of discrimination. [stonewall.org.uk]
- Research also demonstrates that challenges remain for LGBT+ pupils at school. For example, Stonewall’s 2017 School Report found 45% of LGBT pupils experienced bullying for being LGBT. [stonewall.org.uk]
