Support for Gambling, Alcohol & Drug Misuse

November 6, 2023 | News, Support for Older People

There are lots of reasons why problems develop around the misuse of drugs, alcohol and gambling. Drugs, alcohol and nicotine affect the way you feel both physically and mentally. Gambling can result in a similar mental “high” after a win. These feelings can be enjoyable and create a powerful urge to use the substances or gamble again. It can develop into a habit which is very hard to stop.

The strain of managing an addiction can seriously damage your relationships, health and work life. Addiction is a treatable condition.

There are lots of ways to seek help for you and your family. You could speak to your doctor for advice or contact an organisation that helps people with addictions. Local and national groups offering help and support are listed below.
